Mel Vander Staay took over Palmistree in March 2017.

'Coming from an administration only background it was quite a big change for me, but a very welcome and satisfying change.
Having my own business has been a dream come true! Being able to work around school hours and spend more time with my family, especially my two daughters, has really made me wonder why I didn't do this sooner.
​
I did mention that I don't come from a horticulture background, but fortunately my husband is a part owner and Director of Westland's Nursery, so I guess you could say I have the best advantage to become a fast learner!
I employ two casuals, one being the previous owner who has been a fantastic help, with both the business change over and taking on casual work to help me out.
​
Palmistree is growing rapidly, and with the fantastic team I have created I am excited about the future a what is in store for us all.
